The landscapes that I paint are very familiar to me; they are of my native region. It is exactly this countryside, the morphology of the landscapes which draws my attention. I refer to its people and its most common cultures (cows, rabbits, crows) (corn, wheat, grapes, rapeseed, hops).
Certain places in the countryside speak out to me and lead me to paint. I then imagine the transition between the space of the countryside and the space of the canvas. My past as an Architect maybe has something to do with it. It's a route to take without idle chatter. Rather than speak about painting, I prefer to let the painting speak. It is the technique that determines and guides me in the practice of painting and of its subject.
Because it is about fog, rain, reflections, light, sky filtered through the trees and atmosphere, I could be described as a "contemporary impressionist." These very common landscape elements allow me to escape the spectacular or the retinal side. The emotion cannot spring from a multitude of effects and impressions: the less said, the more we imagine...
